Can I use the stock intake hose with a S3 MAF?
#3
Which car?
If the A4 is a V6 and it's for that, your current hose will work, but will be restrictive and limit the gains from the S3 MAF.
If it's for the 100, then you will need to do a 4 wire to 3 wire mod first, and you will need a new hose. A '92 100 has a small bore MAF, the hose is too small on the MAF end.

Why don't you go here.............
and make your own silicon hose kit.
Remember, the smoother the air the better. The plastic accordion hose will disrupt the air going into the TB.
We want as few disruptions to the flow of air as possible, to gain as much HP as possible.

http://hosetechniques.com/</a

Thanks for the input.....
I know that accordian tube is no good. Thanks for that website. I was just making sure that if I get the S3 MAF I could just go ahead and install it without needing other parts right away.

Re: "Smoother is better" ...
Not that what you said is incorrect but I wanted to add this.
The accordion hose is not ideal for the intake because it causes unwanted turbulence; however, I beleive "smoother is better" is not the best way to put it. Smoother, as in a mirror finish, is best on the exhaust end not the intake end that's why our intake pieces like the MAF, recovery sleeve, TB, and IM are all honed to a specicif micron finish.
That being said I would go with the silicone hose as well because it has been proven to work by many a 12 valver and is part of the S3 intake mod that was developed by the man himself ... Mance.

I was talking with Don Steiger who owns.................
and he told me the new thinking, with companies like Extrude Hone, is smooth as glass. In fact, he showed me an intake runner that had been done by Extrude Hone, and it was a mirror finish.

http://www.deloreanmotorcenter.com/</a

Is there an explanation of this new thinking?
I'm sure there was testing by both Don and Extrude Hone that lead them to this conclusion...I'd like to know the flow dynamics and the reason for the sudden change of heart?

He did not tell me...............................
I was in the middle of taking off the CV joints from my drive shaft when we walked by an intake manifold and he mentioned the new thinking and showed me a manifold that Extrude Hone had just done.
A call to Extrude Hone would give you that explanation. If you do call, I am sure the rest of us would like to know the reason behind this new thinking.
