Default Even though there are a bunch of review out there, I'm still throwing my 2 cents in on the S3 MAF ;)

Too many posts on these cars getting sold Seems to be some kinda bug out there lately... lol

So I picked up a used S3 MAF from euromotorsports and got it installed last week. Being the engineer that I am, I like to see numbers, cuz when it comes to the "feel" I come up numb in the dynobutt at times. So I did some baseline 20mph to 60 mph pulls in 2nd gear on a open strip of road by me. On 4 pulls, I avg'd about a 7.12 sec pull. That's with my lltek cone (that's dirty as hell), OEM MAF, S3 Hose kit, and TAP1 TB. Today I went onto the same strip of road and did the same 4 pulls. On the 4 pulls, I avg'd about a 6.8775 sec pull. Not a bad increase.

At first I didn't feel too much of a difference (after the 50 mi "break in" period). I'm not gonna lie, I was a lil disappointed. So I rode it out a little more just to make sure everything was adapted. I then realized where my folyl was. This isn't really going to help the down low stuff as dramatically as the up high stuff. So I decided to have some fun on the onramps onto the highway from work. Yeah, def a bit omre pickup. I can accellerate better in 3rd gear coming out of my normal turn where I'm normally lugging a bit. All in all, very happy.

Of course, there are some obligatory pix of the install:

here's teh beast fresh from the box with the biggest opening o-ring installed:

here's a pic of the CAI assembly with the old MAF:

And the 2 MAF side by side... can you tell a difference? haha
<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/21175/dscf0039.jpg">

And the assembly with the S3:
<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/21175/dscf0040.2.jpg">

And of course, the whole thing nessled into its new home
<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/21175/dscf0041.jpg">
you can see where my p/s fluid is leaking onto my valve cover too in this pick... damn $200 hose... ANd of course you can see what happens when ya live near the beach... sand sand eeeeverywhere. I can hose off the engine, and about 20 mi later, it'll look about teh same... it's sickening.

One thing I did notice though is that this MAF helped "regulate" my A/F readings. I was consistantly hitting the 2nd yellow LED on my ARM1 with I'd say 85% hitting the first green. After in stalling the S3 with o-ring I'm now in the greens at all times... thought that was kinda cool. So obviously more proof that the S3 MAF causes you to not go lean

Cool, nice write up. One thing I don't see in the pic though is a Heat Sheild, got plans for one? I lost my job Monday so I guess I'll have plenty of time to get my ride fixed soon+

Default you serious? I'm sorry to hear about that buddy... :(

they downsizing or something? Didn't you just get that job too? that just plain sux.

There's a heat shield there, not the greatest though... it's what came with the lltek kit. I have plans to make one out of ABS plastic and aluminum with a buffer zone in the middle... but haven't gotten around to it obviously.

Na, no downsizing. It was a small owner run company. Last week we had a meeting and everything was great. This week she hired one of her good friends son's to replace me. He flunked out of college also, gotta love that. Oh well, I would have never made what I want or need there anyway.

Well good luck with the job search. If ya need any help with anything lemme know. My friend is actually a head hunter in the area, so she might be able to help out. Shoot me an email if you want me to ask. No promises, but I'll put in the good word

Default Cool writeup, I have yet to install mine...

Glad to see some numbers, although seat-of-the-pants works for me...just hard to relate over e-mail and not in person.
I want to do a couple g-tech runs to get some numbers also before doing the change. My can is a 30v, but all the good mods come out of this forum. Once I get it installed I should ask Mance if he's gotten a 99.5 to mock up a S2 or S3 hose kit :-)
