Starting troubles
My 2.8 has a weird thing that I just can't figure out. When I start first time in the morning I have to press the accelerator a bit before the care would take. warm starts are the same. I start her up car takes quickly then dies, if I try to start again I have to push on the acellerator for a while before she takes, If I switch her off immediately and start her up, no problem takes as if nothing was ever wrong. Checked the codes and the coolant temperature switch has a short to "B+". That is the only fault code I got.
Could it be that switch?
Thanks

Re: Starting troubles
I have the same thing when cold in one of my 2.8's
I have to give the car a little bit of gas when I start it, after about 5 sec...it is fine, I can let off.

There are two engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensors: G62, which sends data to the engine...
control module (ECM), and F76, which sends data to the temp gauge, and activates the coolant overheat warning and the A/C compressor shutoff (overheat). Which ECT thru the code?

Re: There are two engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensors: G62, which sends data to the engine...
Just yesterday I washed the engine and I blew the big one ( The one that sends the temperature to the water temp dial in the car $200 from the dealer I will get it the day after tomorrow) it is the other sensor on the right side of the engine the small one with a white plug on top. I believe it is this one that sends the temp of the water to the ECU to let the car know how much fuel must be injected into the combustion chamber.
Could it be this one that makes all the trouble?
Thanks

You are paying way too much for that sensor. Go on-line & save some $$s...
If ECT -G62- malfunctions, the ECM will assume a temperature of 68 F (20 C) when the engine is first started. 18 F (10 C) is then added per miniute of engie operation until the maximum temperature of 185 F (85 C) is reached. If the engine is very cold with a bad ECT, then you might have some starting problems with the default ECM temperature assumption.
If you're interested, I have a used OEM ECT (P/N 039919 369 C, Behr unit) for the temp gauge, etc. which I pulled from my '96 A6. You have have it for $5 plus shipping. I replaced it on my A6 because I was having a low temp gauge reading, but the problem was really a bad thermostat.
