Default 2.7t.....P1171 error code

Hello all, newbie here.
I have got a 2000 A6 with the 2.7t that is intermittently throwing the P1171 error code. After much searching in this forum I am confused about what this code means? Do I have a bad throttle body or is it the sensor on the pedal? Error states the throttle actuation potentiometer. Does anyone know where this thing actually sits? Also what does the sign2 range/performance part of the error code mean?
Thanks for your help!
Todd

Default That code is relating to your throttle body itself

Sometimes carbon can buildup in the throttle body and it keeps the throttle plate from shutting all the way. I would clean it and then reset basic settings channel 60 and then if you still have a code then replace the throttle body.
