How does stage 3- software differ from the Stage 1 software?

How does stage 3- software differ from the Stage 1 software?
Does it run a higher boost? I am reading that with Homebrew stage 3- (Stage 1 SW and K04s), one will need a MBC to turn down the boost, as oppose to the Stage 3- software which does it automatically. Can someone shed a little light on this for me, TIA.

Which chip? APR 2+ (3-) only resolves the CEL from the new cats. No idea about GIAC.
I had no MBC when I went to stage 3- on APR 2+.The car ran fine on everything but fueling, s.plugs, MAF and RS4.
