Default Looking for some guidance on Timing Belt and 1st Chip upgrade:

Finally made up my mind (and found the cash)to head out to AWE to chip my 2003 A6 2.7t, but unfortunately, I also have 98,000 miles on the engine. I bought the car used about 2 yrs ago w/56k miles on it (supposedly, a lease turn in) so I'm pretty darn sure the original owner didn't change the TB.

Anyhow, my question is would it be a good idea to have the TB changed and the chip upgraded on the same day? (or does it make any difference at all?,

Lastly, and i know this is a no-no here( unexpected visit to the emer. Romm last coupled with surgery the week before so I don't really and don't have the mental aptitude to go through the archives), but can someoone please remind me what additional upgrades (i.e., throttle body, diverter valves etc.) that i should look at while I have the the engine open?

Thanks in advance for your time and suggestions.
Joe

Default yes, do timing belt/tensioner/cam seals/accessory belt/etc. while you're in there

or while someone is in there. you could upgrade to a samco tbb and 710N dvs while you're at it. that'd be a lot of work for one day, but it's doable.

Default thks quickaudi -- any idea what I'm looking at for total cost (including upgraded samco tbb etc.)

I'm closing in on 100k miles and want to make upgrades where possible and/or necessary. I'd like to keep this baby for another 100K.

Default sure, I'll take a stab at some costs

timing belt job for me is usually in the 600 to 800 range
samco tbb is like 60-70
710N are more expensive now, maybe 100 total for two? maybe more

Default Do timing belt before chip, or at the same time

You're lucky the belt didn't break yet. Just make sure the belt is done asap. Throttle body boot and DV's are a good idea, maybe a snub mount too? Avalon just got a new shop, check them out. 303-400-3001

Default Re: that's pretty close to what I was thinking.

Unfortunatly, 1000 clams will most likely push back my gameplan for a giac chip from AWE

Default from who? the dealer? seriously, if it's over $1000, they're nuts and are overcharging

b/c they've never done one before or something isn't right. Did they break out the cost for you?
