Default I think the dimensions are different
Not even sure if I'm on base with this one, but LaBree had to make custom downpipes for my '03 A6 6-speed, because they were unlike other A6's, and unlike - but closer in fitment to - the B5 S4 (i.e. the S4 pipes did not fit).

angles, hangers, everything is diff except diameter.
