Smoke from exhaust

Smoke from exhaust
I have a 2001 A6 2.7T with 90,000 miles and while driving it had heavy smoke coming from the exhaust. I towed it to my service guy and he says both turbos are gone and there is oil all over the engine by the timing belt. Has anyone experienced this, how much should it cost to fix and what is the possibility that the turbo's are not bad and maybe it's something else.

Re: Smoke from exhaust
If you have smoke coming from the exhaust the chances are pretty good at least one of the turbos has failed. the oil at the timing belt is probably not related but have your man check the y-boot at the throttle body for a split. As far as cost goes.....it is going to be expensive. the engine must come out, you need to replace both turbos. You probably are looking at 35-40 hrs.
