Default Torque converter problems

I have a 2001 A6 2.7T with 69K miles. I've just been told that I need to replace the torque converter. Is this a common problem with the A6? I was told by the Audi mech. that it is not that common a problem especially with a vehicle that has only 69k miles on it. Any advice would be appreciated. If it is more common than I think, where is the best place, other than a dealership, to get this repaired?

Default there is a know defect with the torque converter seals. There is an

Audi TSB which you can find on allroadfaq . Find a good local tranny shop to get it done if out of warranty. Indy's charge approx 2k to replace.
