Engine mounts / Purge valve / 1999 A6 2.8Q
Gotta love the stealership.. They wanted $700 for the engine mounts and $350 for the purge valve.. Not to mention $300 for the "brake switch", all while replacing the passenger CAT (driver cat replaced a year or so ago)
Two questions.. is it a major PITA to replace the mounts? I do most everything, like the TB myself, no lack of tools here..
Second, can you clean purge valves, etc, like a MAF to restore operation or is it better to replace?
Thanks.. haven't been here in a while.. in Audi terms for me, that isn't a bad thing.. that means it hasn't broken in a while..

I don't know about an A6
But I did my A4 a few months ago, I can't imagine it is very different. Grab a $20 haynes manual if it looks way different than the A4 tech article. It took me about 10 minutes to change the tranny mounts and about another hour to change the engine mounts. The hardest part of the engine mounts is getting access to the top bolts, which you have to reach from teh bottom. I recommend having a set of short wrenches on hand. I would rate the job a 3/10 just for the PITA of reaching the top bolts.

you could probably use the 1.8T write up as a guide. replacing the mounts can't be that different.
great potential for me to eat my words here but i would imagine that other than the location of the mounts the process for replacing them should be similar.
