Default 4.2 timing belt change, time and effort

I actually have a 2004 VW Touareg, but from what I understand it is the same 4.2 engine.
What are people's experience with doing the timing belt kit?
How hard is it for a normal shadetree mechanic to do, and how much time does it usually take?

The C6 4.2 has a timing chain, not a belt

The earlier 4.2 had a belt.
VW continued to use the belt based engine after Audi changed to the chain.
