The S4 uses a timing chain setup at the rear of the engine, unlike our cars
which have a timing belt at the front. Plus the heads are different, the coil packs are different, the intake and exhaust manifolds are different, ECU is different, etc. I think the only thing that they have in common is the fact that they are both 4.2L. Take a look at the engine in an S4, and you'll immediately realize how much different they are. And FWIW, our C5's do have a forged crank.
