How was Audi able to get more power for the S4 rather than the A6 & A8?

How was Audi able to get more power for the S4 rather than the A6 & A8?
Then when FSI rolled in, the A6 & A8 were able to gain more power than the S4. Will the B8 S4 keep the 20 hp gain on the A6 & A8?

According to what I've been seeing lately, the B8 S4 will not have a V8.
Supposedly it will be equipped with a twin-turbo 3.0 V6. But yes, I assume it will still be more powerful than the A6 & A8.

i think the question is how the B6 S4 motor makes 340 hp while
lets say an C5 A6 4.2 makes 300 hp out of the "same" 4.2. Also have to mention the A8's 310 hp and the S8's 360 hp. Im guessing it has to do with different cams and tuning on the motor.... and maybe different intake and exhaust designs.
