Default UK: Oil level check?

I drove the A6 Allroad 2016. I have just had a service and am unable to see the oil level. I seem to have tried everything, but the only message I get is that the level will be shown after 2 minutes approx. I have waited nigh on 10 mins. Have done the check with the bonnet up, bonnet down etc. It still shows the same message. Also I am not sure if it’s related but I have tried resetting the MMI by pressing the three buttons that you’re supposed to. It’s does not work. Please help.

Steve, you have to accumulate some miles before a reading will be produced in the MMI.

Engine has to be up to temp and the hood closed, turn engine off, open door, close door, turn on ignition *only*, go to the oil level screen, wait till the bar shows.

Great advice. I live in Canada but I am sure the electronics are the same. Tried opening and closing hood, leaving it open etc. Did not work. However bringing engine to temp, turning engine off, opening and closing the door must have reset something and the oil level bar was back. I waited a couple of minutes as well but not sure if it helped. Made me feel better.
Audi are great cars but sometimes too complicated.

The car normally operates a dynamic oil level detection while the engine is running. But after a hood open event, that status is reset and can take some number of miles to re-establish.

In the meantime, the static oil level detection can be used. Not as accurate, but always available, if the oil is up to temp. To initiate that, you have to go to the oil level message with engine off. But obviously the ignition has to be on so you can operate the menu system. And as the oil has to be warm, you can't do it on a cold car. Thus my sequence of re-initiating the static level at the end of a drive.

If you need to really know the oil level and can't risk turning on the engine to warm the oil up, you need a dipstick.
