For the last few weeks, I have occasionally heard a thump in the rear of the car. The first few times it happened, it was as if I ran over a small branch and it flew up and hit inside the wheel well. Except there has not been any road debris.

It seems to occur more in the right rear than the left. It is often when I am at speed, and maybe just letting off the accelerator. Sometimes it has been at low speed, coupled with a slight change in speed or direction.

The other day, on a trip back from Alexandria to Long Island, it happened maybe four or five times. And again this morning around town.

Before I head to the dealer, I thought I would see if I am alone in this.

I have about 22,000 miles on my Allroad, and it doesn't get beaten or abused at all.

I had a similar issue. It occurred at lower speeds, sounded like a clunk. Turns out the Quattro ultra/driveshaft had to much play in it causing the slack and noise. You might be having a different issue though.

I guess your dealer was able to correct this? That is pretty much what it sounds like to me- either something in the drivetrain or a trailing arm fitting. Definitely not a rattle.

Yep they corrected it. If it feels like it slips at after coasting, and makes noise at low speed etc then that's probably it. I have sound recordings if that helps.
