Default Tramlining

i'm having trouble with tramlining on my new 2018 allroad on one particular freeway. i test drove another new 2018 allroad and had the same experience. is there anything i can do to fix this? will the dealership do anything (i.e. is this covered in the warranty)?!?

btw, i previously had a 2018 S5 and never had this problem on this freeway.

What tire pressure are you running? Have you tried changing that?

Also, stock wheels and tires?

I’ll second you on this. I have a 2018 B9 allroad as well. Actually have had two of them, which is a long story, but they both tramline badly on grooved concrete highways. Both cars have stock 245 45 18 continental pro contact tx tires and stock wheels. They both tramline worse than my old B8.5 A4 sedan which had stock 245 40 r18 Pirelli P7s. On that car, switching out to snow tires each season solved the problem. Don’t know if it was the narrower width or softer compound or tread pattern.

Id love to know other people’s experience with different tires.

yes, i'm running stock tires (Cont ProContact TX 245 / 45 R 18). i haven't measured the tire pressure, but i did drive another new allroad off the dealer lot and had the same experience. i'll try checking/adjusting the pressure, but i suspect it's the tires. will the dealership do anything to resolve this, or would i just be wasting my time?

You could see if the dealer is willing to change the tires to a different AO tire. It's always worth asking. I suspect it is due to the width of the tire and the tread design. But there are so many variables that you'd really be hoping for the best if they did switch the tire. My experience is that the wider the tire is, the more likely you'll experience the tramlining effect.

I am pretty good about checking tire pressures and always run with the specified PSI on the door label. Perhaps experimenting with pressures would result in some improvements too?

Replace your tires. Our 2017 did this with the Conti tires and hydroplaned as well. We replaced them with Michelin All Season and are thrilled. Here's a related thread - https://www.audiworld.com/forums/a4-...ences-2919608/
