Default *sigh* My conversation with my friend...the BMW Z3 owner..(long)

-This is the abbrv. version- I never understood what you guys were talking about when you thought that bimmer owners were pretentious and condensending. Well here is the bulk of the conversation with some editing going on...

Friend: Yeah Audis' are nice rides but they are no BMWs.

Me: Yeah I think they are better.

Friend: No way! Bmw cost more across the board. You get what you pay for.

Me: What are you paying for? The name?

Friend: That and performance, styling, craftmanship.

Me: Power?*laughs* I think that my stock A4 can beat your Z3(He has the 2001 2.5)

Friend: No way! I paid $34K for this car and you only paid $28.

Me: So? A WRX would smoke you and most of your precious BMW line.

Friend: WRX? Is that a Neon?

Me:Nevermind. Just let me know when you want to go out and go for a friendly spin

*Moving forward in the conversation*

Friend: Volkswagon wants to be Audi. Audi wants to be BMW. BMW wants to be MB. MB wants to be Jaguar and so on.

Me: What? Uh I would think that each of Audis' line compares nicely with everyone of the bimmers line of cars.

Friend: Dude there is nothing that Audi can make that will ever smoke an M series.

Me: *snicker* Well, right now you may be right..but give it time until the S4 comes out in 2003.

Friend: Whatever! BMW will never allow Audi to take a VW in disguise and compare with the M. Dude, do yourself a favor and trade in your A4 for a 3 series, that is if you want a real car.

Anyhow the conversation goes nowhere fast. He is a good guy but when it comes to cars we argue a lot. My question is...I should be able to smoke his chick car..ahem..I mean his Z3...right? Sorry for the pointless post but now that I own an Audi I get pretty defensive about it.

typical Bimmerspeak. they can't be taught, even with large print and lots of pictures.

Default Your buddy is an idiot when it comes to cars.

More $$$ = better car??? Hmmm...I'll bet most BMW owners go by this rational. Why even waste the time to argue with them? They MUST be right. Boggles the mind...

Default Your friend has some illogical views, however, I do think his Z3 will beat a stock A4.

Last week I was in SF and I rented a Z3 2.8 for a day. Drove out to Livermore and up Mt Hamilton. What a blast! Without a doubt it it would out run and out handle my A4 1.8T with a Wett chip. An engine that size in a small, light body of a Z3 and the low end torque makes a huge difference. The sound of the engine and the snick of the transmission was quite sweet.

I love my A4 and wouldn't give it up, but I have a lot of respect for BMW's. Your friend should show some respect to Audi's.

My wife is looking for a new car soon and I hope she gets a BMW.
