Default 01 A4 1.8T having problems. Please help.

My friend has an 01 A4 1.8T QMS, and his car has been acting up the past couple of weeks. We're both not sure what it is, but we believe its the Mass Air Flow Sensor.

His car doesn't idle right. It goes from 500-1000k RPM's randomly while idling. His throttle response timing is off by quite a bit. Also, his turbo tends to hit at different times. Check engine light is off, and there are no codes present.

Please help us out. Thank you in advance.
