1.8T engine question - A4 owner considering Jetta
I am a 2.8Q owner, and because of the proposition of expensive repairs I don't want to have to do imminent expensive repairs on my 4.5 year old A4.
I am considering getting the 1.8 on the Jetta. Does anyone around here know of any known problems with the 1.8T engine (or Jettas generally)? What I am looking for are some issues comparable to A4's
- IAC valve
- Oxygen Sensors
- I've also seen postings about turbo problems
- etc
also perhaps other known issues about the Jetta like A4's...
- control arms / suspension
- dashboard bubbling
- radio gremlins
- AC Compressors
- ridiculous cup holders that break easily('96)
Thanks.

The 1.8T engine is one of the most bulletproof and trouble free engines
in the world. No Joke. ...in STOCK form.
From my observations it seems to have just as little trouble in just chipped mode too, no exhaust or anything else.

The only problem I've heard of is the pressure plate cracking....
which causes damage to the clutch. There was some talk about this on vwvortex.com I think it happened to most around 5-10k miles. It also happened to my neighbor.

Re: 1.8T engine question - A4 owner considering Jetta
I've had it for 16 months, bought used off of lease. My friend/mechanic sourced it for me.
Aside from the "normal" suspension problems (squeaky, "clunk"-y control arms), I haven't had to do anything. That's what has me worried. And that's why I want to sell it now...before the '02s come out.
Oh, and yes, that damn "one small mirror."
