Re: 1.8T first time maintenance
Glad to have another A4 owner in Vancouver, BC!
When my 99 Jetta towed into Cowell service department 2 months ago, they were unable to give me the loaner because of the drop in. When I asked them about the rental car, they told me I have to be 21 years old or older in order to rent a car. Since I am going to be 22 years old, they sent me to the Discount car rental in the Richmond auto mall (opposite to Toyota). They paid for all the rental fees but the gasoline had to put my myseelf. They rented me a huge Dodge Grand Caravan for whole day. One of the unbelieveable thing is: they asked me whether I choose a suburban assualt vehicle: Chevy Suburban or this minivan.
Tom (22 years old next week)
97 A4 1.8TQMS
99 JETTA IV GLS 2.0
PS: are you the one who drove a Santorin Blue 2.8 A4 in Cowell Motors near 1 pm this afternoon? I thiink I saw you talk to the service advisor

A4 Club Vancouver

Re: 1.8T first time maintenance
It varies from company to company. But Discount rents to 21 and above. Some companies will rent to over 18, provided it is a corporate rental, like if you worked for a big company that rents from them a lot. When I was in college, I was able to rent cars when I went on out of town interviews.
HTH,
Mark

Re: 1.8T first time maintenance
From what I understand and experienced, rental agencies normally have a thing about not renting to persons under 21. But what I don't understand is why Cowell is sending you to a car rental place in the first place. They have their own pool of demos/loaners. Now whether they have a age restriction on that, I wouldn't know.
About your car... you said that it was pulling to the right before your service? Mine was too... and when I had it serviced at Cowell, it initially pulled to the left. However, after a bit more driving, it seemed to have gone away. Go figure.
- A.
