1.8T Front-trak
Anyone out there with a FWD 1.8T that wants to sing its praises? Am I missing out by looking at a car without Quattro?
Does the weight savings translate into better stock performance.. or does the non-AWD car not do so well when modded?
Curious, because I'm comparing a 2001 1.8T FWD w/ 1997 2.8 (12V) Quattro.

Kinda depends on where you live
If you anticipate snow/ice, then quattro is well worth it. In the wet, I have to say, the FWD still handles remarkably well. Also, if you're not planning on installing a full coil over suspension, I'd also recommend getting one of the Neuspeed rear swaybars. On my OE sport suspension, it's a nice complement to reduce understeer and help turn-in.

I own one and enjoy it..
Weather is not an issue were I live. My issue right now is that I want more power and really want to go stage 3 but have heard that is not the best idea because of FWD. I do have stage 2 and It can handle that with little wheel spin.
I also am looking for some used coilovers and cant find any, FWD & quattro are not interchangable. There are a lot more used quattro parts out there than there are FWD parts.

Love mine
If I lived in a climate where snow was an issue, I would have gone Quattro. Car tracks fine (note sig pick). Car is slightly faster than a similarly modded Quattro (I can typically keep pace with Stage II Quattro A4s with my Stage I FrontTrak). Stage III will require the addition of a Quaife LSD <read, crazy *** wheel spin if you don't>.
