It's a vacuum valve.

Default Can you tell me the function of this particular vacuum valve?

I am aware that it is a vacuum valve, I am not convinced however that it is functioning correctly. Does it look normal to you? Is something supposed to be attached to that little white piece sticking out?

Default Intake Manifold Changeover Valve

The other valve is a EGR Vacuum regulator solenoid valve.

If you have a Bentley Manual, search under "Vacuum connections" and not "Vaccum Diagram".

Nothing attached to the little white cover on my 12v; valve looks dirty, but otherwise normal.

Default Looks like you have all original vacuum tubing; I would replace all of it.

The OEM stuff is very cheap in both quality and cost and will last a few years before it begins to become brittle and crack. I could not find silicone hose so I re-did mine with the OEM stuff.

Alternatively, you can purchase the silicone hose. Much more expensive, but it will likely last a life time. See www.hosetechniques.com for more info.

Note: if you replace your vacuum tubing, beware of the hose that goes from the lower right rear of the plenum near the right crankcase vent hose connection. You will notice it has a green stripe which indicates that it is diesel rated. While it looks like a vacuum hose in size, it acts as a breather tube for the EGR system and carries air with oily residue to the plenum. So make sure you replace it with a hose, silicone-based or otherwise, that can handle petroleum-based fluids.

Default It's fine. When it opens the little white piece pushes out. Basically it's a switch for the vacuum..

to the diaphraghm which controls the changeover.

Default I am in the process of replacing them as we speak. I am trying to elimiante a mystery vacuum noise.

This piece did not look right as it is way too clean so I was wondering if something came off the end of it.
