I'm glad You appreciated my write-up "moloveshisaudi1254". One more thing that I forgot to mention. After you remove the throttle body, If you look inside the intake manifold. (I used a regular hand held mirror that I borrowed from my friends girlfriend. It really helps to see inside the intake manifold to check for gunk) On my car there was a small pit of carbon build up right on the bottom of the Intake Manifold Chamber. Which I though was just a pointless crater, maybe created during casting of the part. It turns out that this is actually the channel where the EGR valve gas passes through to enter the Intake manifold. You don't actually need the mirror to see this particular "crater" But the mirror does come in handy with a flashlight to see farther into the Intake manifold and to locate screws. So take your bicycle brake cable, or whatever you decide to use and clean that hole thoroughly. All other work done will be pointless without cleaning this entire channel. And as I said in my last post, which was very much a surprise to me, Electronic spray cleaner worked wonders for breaking down the carbon buildup. and since it dries almost instantly you don't have to worry about it causing any ill effect to any other parts, such as rubber hoses or vacuum chambers, such as the ones used for the cruise control and I believe this is also how the EGR valve works but I'm not sure(I don't know what these vacuum chambers are called so if someone would like to enlighten me... much thanks) Please keep in mind that I am not an expert, So if anybody has any disputes with using the electronic spray cleaner or any other of my advise Please let it be known on the board as I Under no circumstance want to give anybody ill advise, as I would not want someone giving me ill advise. But In my experience, The electronic spray cleaner worked brilliantly.

Also I have The CarMD ODBII Devise, which gave me the code that directed me to clean my EGR system. It threw Me a different Code then you provided "moloveshisaudi1254". But I'm not sure if it was just the use of a different devise which threw the different code. My code that came up was "P0401" (P, Zero, Four, Zero, One)

I would Love to show you the pictures that I took. I'm sure that They would really Help. But I don't yet know how to post Pictures In with a message post(I haven't tried). Any tips on that would be great. I'm sure I probably Just have to go to "go advanced" Instead of "post quick reply" So I'll try that tomorrow. If you don't see the pictures up by tomorrow night, Then I didn't figure it out.

Stay Cool Folks... I mean You do drive an Audi...Don't you

Thanks once more for the additional tip. I used VW-Tool to scan for code. I got the P0401 and it said 16785 also. I think the P0401 is generic and 16785 is VW specific not 100% sure but they mean about the same thing. Here is exactly what it said:

16785 (P0401) Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Insufficient Detected
INTERMITTENT

As far as posting pictures, you have to upload them to another website like photo bucket. There are lots of them that will let you do it for free so just search on google. Once the pictures are uploaded you can link to them in your post. That's the way I do it, if you want more specific instructions PM me. Also you can probably check out the Wiki and find some info there.

-Good luck, looking forward to those pictures. Mo.

That part of the cleaning is crucial, it's where the majority of the blow by gases condense and collect. It's also pretty hard to remove the crud as it's quite hard and sometimes you have to chip away at it.

I think some people just squirt some gunk in there and call it good.

Of course if you do that it doesn't stay fixed very long.

On a 99 V6 you have a 30 valve V6, so the EGR is of a different design.

There are Secondary Air Injection/Kombi Valves (sometimes listed as EGR valves but not always). There are two of them one for each bank and they are different from each other.
They are fairly high failure and expensive but easy to replace. As far as I know there is no cleaning procedure for the EGR passage on the 30 valve V6.

ok because I have a "throttle valve control system malfunction code, and some people I have talked to say to take throttle body off and clean, but I was juts goin to clean everything if it got to that point? Are these people legit, do I need to clean or just replace?

Probably worth a shot, the throttle bodies do gum up. Just keep the electronics on the bottom of throttle body as dry as possible.

Easier than the 12 valve as you don't have all the solenoids on top of the throttle body, Idle control valve and the EGR passage.

Make sure all the vacuum ports on the throttle body and plenum are clean also. They tend to get blocked and cause weird idle problems.

Think positive! Just clean up that old throttle body with a dremel and replace the gasket.

Worse thing that could happen is it doesn't help. So you have wasted $5 and an hour or two.

You could probably get a used throttle body at a junk yard. The VW Passat uses the same one as does the A6.

Here's one

They are different for Auto/ 5 speed. I think you can either one on the 5 speed, but the auto can only use the correct one.
