1997 A4 1.8T Quattro - ECU upgrade worth? If so, which chip is the most performant/reliable?

1997 A4 1.8T Quattro - ECU upgrade worth? If so, which chip is the most performant/reliable?
If anyone can help me out I'd appreciate.
I love my car the way it is, but I wouldn't mind some extra performance if there is no risc associated.
Also, can the stock turbo be upgraded to a better one? Is it worth it? ..and if so, what is "a better one"?
Thank you very much in advance for your help.
Boris

Hello Boris:
I have tried chipping the A4 1.8T before but on an auto and not Quattro.
A piece of advice is to go to a reputable chip installer and ask them about the upgrade if there are any problems associated with the engine or the turbo? That would be your best bet.
I have tried it and it is crazy, it was puchinh 10psi when chipped, I used to be running on 15" rims and the tyres kept skidding. Man was it great. But I sold it after I chipped it due to insurance rates. The chip I used was Fueltronics in Australia.
But do consider the end results if U do decide to chip.

Go for it....My '97 1.8Tqms has been chipped for about 48,000 miles now....
....first with a Wetterauer 1.0 bar chip and most recently with a Garrett 1.0 bar chip. I also had an APR chip in my car for about a month.

It's not totally "risk-free". You could have problems due to the increased boost pressure. So unless you're willing to assume a bit of risk, a chip is probably not for you.
Read the Tech article listed below for a good start on understanding chipping your 1.8T.
There are bigger turbo kits you can install such as a K04 kit (approx. $1500) or APR's Stage III kit (approx. $4,000).
