Default 1997 audi - need new engine (cost, advice?)

hello all,

i've got a 1997 audi, timing belt went, destroyed engine. car has 100,000 miles - i can throw away the car (sell it) or i can put a new/rebuilt engine in. my first thought is, i'd really rather not put an engine in that might be iffy (rebuilt) - so i'm thinking new.

has anyone gone through this? any estimates for a new engine?

thanks,

barrie

Check salvage yards for low miles motors.

Default New engine is more than car is worth...

...a 97 FWD Auto 1.8T with a blown motor is worth nothing, if the timing belt maintenance was ignored what else was forgotten? A used motor from a wreck is more economical.Even with new engine the car is not worth that much.

Default try Shokan Audi.

They stock engines from all Audi. Other parts as well.

I suggest call them. (800) all-audi Very knowledgeable people. I have used them for my A4 and my old 5000S

http://www.shokan.com</a

Default Similar experience

The engine blew up in my 4ks (1.8L 4-cyl) last year. I really like the car, so I found a nice used engine in Ohio and had it shipped to me. $395 shipped (I know it's cheaper than a 1.8T, but its the idea that counts.) I got 104k mile engine (pretty low for one out of an '87 car), with excellent compression. It runs like a champ. I'd go the used route if you want to keep the car.
