2.4 b5 quattro wagon ecu/box troubles
i very recently inherited a b5 with 161000 ks on it after a friend had it go into limp mode on a trip. He took it to an automatic specialist who gave it a very expensive service then advised hjim to wreck it. The front drain had blocked, drowning the ecu, nm 8D0 927 156 BP. They also found an extra pcb hooked up to it. Once i got it homew anbd started looking round in the main computer boix i found 2 more extra pcb's and a piece of paper advising '' to future technicians, there are 2 extra pcbs within this case. Their purpose is to unlock the torque converter clutchg more quickly when accelerating. The larger pcb is connected to thew throttle position sensor, when it senses a significant opening of the throttle its relay closes and operates the relay to t5he smaller pcb, which in turn causes its relay to operate for a period of approx 10-12 seconds. the twin trurip grey wire is connected to the normally open contacts,so it is closed for the 10-12 sec delay time, enabling the torque converter to be unlocked during this perioid, which greatly improves acceleration. The twin trurip cable goes to the gearbox ecu , when they are open circuit the gearbox will operate normally ie torque converter sluggish to unlock. when they are closed the torque converter will be held in the unlocked condition
soooo......got given another ecu 8D0 927 156 A to try. With it in the box goes up thru its gears badly..normally going into limp mode[i guess,daSh display remains normal] tho if you slow right down it goes back down thru the gears. You can get it to sporadically go into tiptronic with varying levels of success and periods of time. there also is a small gauge brown wire coming out of the main computer with maf written on tape stuck to it thats currently going no where.the rest of the car is in to good a condition to not try....
Ideas anyone?
