2000 Audi 2.8 A4 Quattro Cam Tensioner Seized Up
My 2000 Audi 2.8 A4 Quattro with 50,000 miles has sprung a cam tensioner leak. The mechanic replaced both valve cover gaskers and right front cam tensioner seal. However, he was not able to replace the left cam tensioner seal because he says it has seized up and he is not able to release it with the Audi recommended tool. He tells me that he needs to take the cams apart to replace the seized cam tensioner. This is roughly a 3-hour job. How critical is it that I replace the defective cam tensioner now? Is this something that can wait until the timing belt is replaced at the recommended 108,000 miles?

What I would do is do the timing belt now, to change out the tensioner...
if for some reason the cam chain is loose, and the tensioner can't tighten it, you will be in a world of hurt..
