2001 Jetta 1.8t engine in a 1997 1.8t A4...
1997 A4 engine was blown at 70k due to defective timing belt tensioner failure. This part was subsequently re-engineered. Any thing to look for as far as ECM problems? Also are the 2001 Jetta 1.8t and the 1997 A4 1.8t identical?

Rabbit?? They havn't used the Rabbit name since 85.
As for the engines, I think that they are a little different, DBW and the VVT for a couple.. Wether it would bolt in I am sure it would, but getting it to run well might be difficlut.

Main difference is on transverse vs. longitudinal engine mount.
The A4 is mounted longitudinal(cylinder bank parallel with car), and the VWs are transverse....this difference also effects the way the exhaust is mounted, from the headers down to the cat. I don't know the specific differences, but I know its different enough to free up 10 more hp in the GTI.
