Default I miss the real feel you get from struts... you can tell what's happening all the time..

As for wider being less stable, I'm not sure I understand how that would be possible? The only negative handling trait of wider tires I've ever encountered is the tendency to tram line more..

Default Elliptical contact patch varies wider or more narrow. More narrow = more directional stability.

Maybe this expresses itself most obviously in tramlining. Other wide tire effects include: hydroplaning, steering feel, unsprung mass, rotating mass...blah blah. Anyway, increased deflection effort off-center steering is not desirable and should not be mistaken for "stability". Check out info on contact patch if you want.
