235/40/18s....what tire pressure should I use?
#2
i follow the cars recommendations on the sticker in the gas tank and the specs for the tire
my tires say max pressure 45psi IIRC and for 4 people and luggage pressure should be at 42. i pressurize to 40 on my PZero Neros 235/45/17s. hope this helps a little

Ditto . . . I drive in a spirited manner on rough roads . . .
I also run on super light racing wheels (15 lb forged aluminum 17's).
So, I run the tire pressure high (at least 5-10 lbs under the max. rating, depending on the rating) to avoid both bending a rim and having a tire failure due to excess pressure blow-out.
Also, running on bigger rims similarly necessitates higher air pressures, because you have less sidewall to protect your rims.
I would endorse 35-38 psi even on stock rims.
Normally, filling the tires a few psi over the suggested recommendation on the gas tank sticker will add 50% to 100% more miles, because you will wear on the center of the tire when going straight and wear on the shoulders only when cornering. Most tire pressure recommendations under pressurize the tires causing you to wear on the shoulders even when driving in a straight line; thus, wearing out the shoulders long before you get 1/2 way through the center tread.
