3 spoke steering wheel for '98 A4 2.8 quattro
Hi all,
Was 3 spoke steering wheel an independent option
for '98 A4 2.8 quattro without sport package?
I saw a '98 A4 2.8 quattro for sale and it has 5 spoke
16' alloy wheels, so it doesn't seem to have sport
package but it has 3 spoke steering wheel.
Any comment would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

I believe in 98 you could pick all the sport items independently
Sport suspension came with every 98 2.8Q. You can verify this by
a) ride height vs. non-sport 98 1.8T, and
b) brown struts instead of black (I think)
Sport steering wheel, sport wheels (7-spoke 16"), and sport seats were all available on their own. The sport seats (I think) were also available in leatherette and cloth, mine are Jacquard cloth.
Hope this helps.

You are incorrect........

Don't know where you're getting this info from, but it's incorrect. Sport suspension never came standard on any A4, it's always been an option (except for 1996 & 1997 A4 2.8 which didn't have the option and the 1997 A4 1.8T had a sport package but it didn't include suspension changes.)
Sport steering wheel, sport wheels (7-spoke 16"), and sport seats were all available on their own.
Partially correct....the 7-spoke sport wheels were not available as a factory option outside of the "sport" package. Of course you could always purchase them from your dealer separately.
The sport seats (I think) were also available in leatherette and cloth, mine are Jacquard cloth.
Sport seats were available only in cloth in the 1.8T and in leather in the 2.8....no leatherette sport seats.

99 (built in 98) with 3-spoke but no sports package
If my non-sport 2.8 quattro and Crazy Silver's car are both non-sport but with the 3-spoke steering (mine was definitely an option) then your '98 most likely offered it as an option.....

Hmm.. please explain my car.
1998 2.8Q
Jacquard Cloth sport seats
7-spoke sport wheels
Sport steering wheel.
No sport suspension option on build code, but I have the sport suspension. The only Audi replacement suspension parts for this car use the 98 sport suspension.
Every dealer I talked to told me that the 98 2.8's came with sport suspension automatically. Of course, I'm in Canada, that might affect things. My car was delivered May 97, btw. If you're interested, I'll list you all the option codes from the maintenance book.
I think the 98.0 2.8 was a weird example, since it's basically a 97 with a 30V, and they upgraded the suspension because of the heavier engine. Perhaps 98.5 allowed a non-sport stock 2.8 suspension.
Oh well.
