Default 328i - A4 Experience (and Nearly First!)

Very nice red colored 328i and my 1.8T played with each other on the highway Saturday.
I have a wett chip and he wasn't able to pull away from me at all. I even had the A/C running. He had Diplomat plates even (usually in our area is a European Diplimat) so he probably had a bit of autobahn experience. And the way he was driving showed that. I was happy that my A4 could keep up easily and manage traffic as well as him. (I also had a bike rack to slow me down).
I usually dont drive so hard on the highway because I often have a passenger. I was driving more conservatively than the bimmer anyway (he cut people off on occassion).
It didnt seem like I was going any faster than usual but I made my regular 45 minute trip in 35 minutes.
I was just pleased I could hold my own knowing the BMW had more power.
1.8TQTipSport-Wett

Default I owned a 328i and if you can beat that I'm impressed. That car could haul *** but my A4 1.8T is much more fun to drive. nt.

Default Curious: why do you say the A4 is more fun?

Not bashing anything, just wondering. Did the bimmer not have the sport package?
adc
Red 1.8T QMS, APE

Default You are right ; my 328i didn't have the sport package and it leaned a lot in corners. I...

also thought the shifter was too notchy and long throws. In the end the main thing I liked about the car was the engine. And it was one hell of an engine. I like my A4 better because it outhandles the bimmer AND gives a better ride. The A4 has a lot more solid body and much less creaking over uneven pavement. The A4 shifter is much smoother and not notchy at all and the clutch engagement is a lot more fun. The 328i is so strong on take off that it was always hard to get good 1st to 2nd shifts. This along with the heavy clutch made city driving a pain. I also find the engine in the Audi more fun to rev up and use around town. Well I guess that's enough. I am not bashing the bimmer at all; I just find the A4 more fun. Probably the E46 is a better match in the aforementioned items.
