Default 97 a4 aeb 1.8: catastrophic loss of ALL oil and coolant at once!

driving back from queens off l.i.e. to manhattan this morning and all of a sudden, the engine seizes (oil and water temps normal); cross intersection, puff of smoke, and immediately pull over.

hear of 'puuuush' sound and get out of the car. just in time to watch the remainder of my oil and coolant blow its wad onto the service road. there's a trail ~ 75ft long from middle lane to right. travelling 25-30 mph with no/min boost.

initially fear, something happen to oil pan and it cracked. however, didn't hit anything and i have w8 bellypan.

81k on the motor; auto, apr 5.1 ecu, k04 turbo. well-maintained. updated oil lines and heat shield. g-12 coolant only. mobil 1 synthetic, big mann oil filter, s4 oil cooler, new coolant expansion tank, ecs ultimate timing belt kit installed @ 53k.

towed by aaa to my mechanic. dropped off since it's busy. he briefly listens to attempted starts while rolling car off flatbed in parking spot. sounds bad....he thinks something inside broke. he's going to get back to me when they have time for the actual inspection.

am i screwed or what?! now, i hope it's just the oil pan. if it's a crank or rod, this will be the biggest p.o.s. i've ever owned. little gremlins are annoying, but i can live with. major catastrophies like this i cannot. 4th time stranded by this car.

tips/suggestions/prayers welcomed

Default hrm....

Oil and coolant. Well these two do not mix at any point in our car, to state the obvious.

This leades me to think of things that could cause this to occur.

First I'd check the major hardware, Radiator, Lower radiator pipe, upper radiator pipe, oil pan, AND shredded belts (at speed they can whip around and rip the uppoer or lower radiator fan and even catch an oil line).

If all hardware is intact, try doing a compression test to eliminate another obvious choice for you problem. Piston, piston rings, thrown rod.

Lastly I'd check the connections to the engine block.

It might be nasty, but it just looks like you have a big scavenger hunt on your hands.

Michael.

Default update: will have to wait til monday for evaluation

they were too busy to get to my car.

note: all belts intact. since my w8 bellypan was still on, i'm not sure where the breach occurred, but it's somewhere from the bottom end.
