97 Audi A4 1.8t
I am looking at 97 a4 1.8t and wanted to know about 'chipping' it... I was on the superpowerparts website and one of the chips they had said 47hp and 100 ft/lbs of torque increase... does it really jack it up that much? I mean for 400 bucks that seems to be a lot... Also it says I would need to take out the old ecu and send it to them and then they'd send it back? Will the car drive without it? or should I assume I'd be without some wheels for a few days...

i chipped my 97 at 130 Kmi.....
the difference is readily noticable. i got an APR chip which allows you to switch back and forth between stock and chipped. so i can really test this. you can't drive the car without the ecu. i think i'd send it overnight. so you should be down only 3 days. have fun.

I had the GIAC and it was like night and day. Also hook up at least a TT valve. Maybe even think
about purchasing a used ECU from somewhere. I have a GIAC chip with a spare ECU for sale in about a 1.5 months, if you want to wait till I get my KO4 in. Say $625 including overnight shipping to anywhere in the US, says you the hastle of finding another ECU, sending yours in to get chipped, and you would have an extra ECU to sell if you want. Email me if interested.

Depends on who you ask.
Some will say the TT valve is fine, for chipped or StageIII cars. Others prefer Forge or Bailey valves. I actually had a Forge, then put on the TT valve to see if there was any difference....and there wasn't, as far as I can tell. IMO, the TT valve will suffice.
