98.5 Audi A4 Quattro Avant (30V) Heating Problem after a Timing Belt Job
This weekend I reinstalled the thermostat to
fix a coolant leak. The car is now running
without any issues with one exception.
When the climate control is set to HI,
I feel very little hot air blown through
the vents. This happens well after the
engine has warmed up. The heat is working,
and the coolant fan does come on.
When the climate control is set to LO, the
AC kicks in, and the cold air is blown through
the vents full blast.
Ideas, anyone?
Thanks,
Dan

Re: air in the sytem would defintaly do it, although he should see the temprature
The temperature gauge does not fluctuate: it is at the 12 o'clock position once the engine warms up.

You've got an air pocket near the heater core hoses.
Pull the pass side heater core hose (look next to battery) back. You'll see a little pinhole on top of the hose...pull the hose back just far enough that the air can escape from the hole, and coolant sprays out. Push the hose back in, and you're done. You might need to remove the 3 screws from the coolant reservoir, and lift it up a bit in order for coolant to flow out of that little bleeder hole on the hose.

In addition to bleeding the heater hose (see RKA)
I suggest bleeding the engine block as well. Standing in front of car facing the engine, look between the P/S pump and the drivers side cyl head you'll see a black pipe coming out of the engine valley with a silver 5 mm hex drive plug in it. with engine cold, open this until all the bubbles are out and its a clear stream of coolant, then tighten back down. (I do this whenever I change my coolant now)
Also make sure you've reconnected ALL the different wiring harnesses.
Reinstalling T-stat: been there, done that. sucks to go all the way back into the engine a second time, don't it?
