hi all, My Audi 1.8 1997 has got a wierd problem recently regarding ABS. Actually, ABS light on and breaking light flashing when speed over 110KM. I have to restart my engine to stop the warning and drive under 100KM at all time. I appreciate in advance if anyone here could answer my query.

Thanks for suggestion. I just ordered a VAG-COM cable on Ebay. hopefully, i will be able to post diagnostic code here sometimes next week. Anyway, I found someone who suffered exactly same ABS issue which light on with braking flashing when his speed over 80mph. Here is his last message as follows;


"Hi everyone, I did what was suggested and identified the problem as the near side rear sensor. I then took a look at it myself and turned the sensor clockwise and anticlockwise pressing in at the same time. The car was tested at 80 mph and the problem has been been resolved. The ABS light no longer comes on at 80 mph. Audi identified the problem sensor and recommended changing the sensor for a new one for £247 incl labour. Fortunately it location merely needed a slight adjustment. Problem solved. Thanks to all who helped solve this problem."

It sounds to me like a bad ABS wheel sensor. If you don't feel like waiting for the Vag-Com, it wouldn't be a bad idea to clean the sensors, and that may help. They are magnetic and tend to gather enough crud that they won't work properly, and it's very easy to do. I'm sure there's a how-to on here somewhere.

Thanks for your suggestion. The issue just disappeared after I twisted WSS on both rear wheels. I removed tyres, found sensors, then twisted a couple of times (turning clockwise then turning anti-clockwise). Now the car is running OK without ABS light on when speed over 120KM. Thank you!
