Default A4 2.8 Suspension Upgrade

Hi guys !!!

I need some feedback from those of you who replaced their Suspension,
my plan is to buy Neuspeed Sport Spring with Bilstein Sport(Neuspeed
modified) Shocks or Koni Sport(Neuspeed modified) Shocks combination.
Is it right that Neuspeed modify the Shocks (Koni and Bilstein) to
their specifications (valving, ajustable C-Clamp, etc.), if so, what
is those modifications ???

I drive in rought road sometime but never off-road, I want to keep a
confortable ride with a sporty handling. After that, I want to
install Neuspeed front/rear(19mm) Sway-Bar, what is your experiences
with them, do you recommand it ??

I prefer to start with suspension handling before improving the
motor...by adding a chip...maybe someday ????

Thanks

Patrick from Quebec, Canada

Default all neuspeed does is add perches to the bilsteins. they do nothing to koni's. Chip ....

A chip is argueably a waste of money for the NA 2.8 motor.

Default chippnig doesn't really help...

maybe you should upgrade your sway bar before the suspension?
have you changed the tires yet?
not sure how rough the roads are in Quebec but i had H&R race springs with Bilstein and they work great
what year is your car? maybe a front tower bar to stiffen up the chassis is nto a bad idea either

No? Maybe your PES chip didn't help, but my GIAC chip was definitely worth it.

Default Interesting how everyone who hasn't chipped a 2.8 thinks it's pointless........

And everyone who has totally disagrees.

I would highly recommend a GIAC chip for the 2.8. Sounds like "Totalled" wasn't too psyched with his PES chip, but everyone with the GIAC seems to love it.

Default Answers to your questions (somewhat long but hopefully informative):

1) I have the Neuspeed Sport Springs & Neuspeed/Bilstein Sport shocks and they perform great. They are not harsh at all and the improvement in handling FAR outweighs the slight increase in ride stiffness. I recommend this very worthwhile upgrade. As far as modifications to the shocks, Neuspeed cuts grooves into the outer casing of the shocks, allowing them to be set at different heights. Although this must be done prior to installation.

2) The Neuspeed 19mm rear sway bay is another very popular and relatively cheap suspension modification for your A4. Many owners have installed this swaybar w/ rave reviews. Keep in mind that you will also need to install the support brackets that come with the kit. These brackets help prevent overdue stress to your car's subframe. Apparently, owners of the early swaybars experienced cracking of their subframes due to the increased stiffness of the bar compared to OEM. Neuspeed addressed this problem by developing the support brackets and I have yet to hear of problems with subframe cracking. I, however, didn't go this route and decided to install an OEM sport rear swaybar with my non-sport front swaybar. I am so far happy with my decision.

3) Regarding your chip question. I have a GIAC chip in my '98 2.8Q and I'm satisfied with my purchase. It won't give you the dramatic increase in HP that a 1.8T chip will, but there's only so much you can do with a naturally aspirated engine. I will say that since I installed the chip, my car seems much more willing to pull at ~3k PRM. The engine seems to be less "twitchy" during gear shifts and power seems to come on a bit smoother. Some people may tell you that this is all imagined but regardless, I'm still glad I got the chip.

I said it was argueable. I'd just prefer to spend my $300 elsewhere.

Default Fair enough =) Just pointing out that everyone who has actually done it argues that it works......

And those who haven't done it and claim that it doesn't work don't have much of an argument.

It wasn't directed at you, rather all of those who have flamed me over this issue =)

What year is your car? If its DBW, your chipping options are very slim.
