A4 delta/bose stereo perminently in 'Safe', thinking of custom audio
Just recently bought a 98 a4, the delta bose stereo unit, it kicked into safe mode after replacing the battery, and audi looked at it and said it was toast for some reason and needed to replace it.. (I'm looking at it thinking this was a unit installed three four + years ago, not exactly worth the $250 to replace)So, this would be the intersection of building a custom system.. Any insight/advise would be great.

I have read many articles where poeple have tried to salvage parts of the stock system.. and obviously had it not perform well.. Any suggetions for the best approach?

well i was thinking more along the lines of a nice head unit, maybe some diamond audio drivers.
i have a mcntosh 420 four channel amp that puts out really clean music... but... i am not sure how it would sound given how the stock speakers enclosures were designed specifically for them....
