A4 Ignition switch problem
Re: '98 A4 Quattro, Tiptronic Sport.
My ignition switch cylinder has a flaw in that sometimes when you switch
off, then remove the key....the dome light doesn't go on, and the bell rings when I
open the car door. The car still believes the key is in the ignition. I've had it in for
replacement of the ignition cylinder, brought it home last night (after 48 hours, grrr),
and the problem is still there with the new cylinder. Service done at Ogner Motors
in Woodland Hills (Porsche,Audi). Klaus seems to be a top-notch mechanic, born
and trained in Germany, so I was hoping he'd fixed the problem for good, but no...
The work-around is that I can push up on the underneath side of
the switch after removing the key, and hear a 'click', then all is well. I have to do this
nearly every time I use the switch, however...which is a pain.
Anybody heard of this? I otherwise love this car (except for the cupholders
being UNDER the armrest!!). It's a blast to drive (too much fun, got my first speeding
ticket in 12 years last week). Any comments would be appreciated, drive safely!
Re: A4 Ignition switch problem
I have a similar problem. I picked up my 99 1.8 on Oct. 22. After 3 days, my alarm and remote quit working. The door chime sounds even after the key is removed from the ignition. It suddenly started working o.k. for a few days, but is back to being broken. I've got an appoinment at the dealer next Monday to hopefully get it fixed. I'll let you know if I learn anything new.
