A4 Security System vs remote start
I think A4 has a regular security system, not the one requires special computer chip on the key (A6 has those ??).
Did anyone install/try to install a remote starter in an A4 ? Did you just add it on the original security system or you have to replace the original one with something like Viper 550 ESP ?
I assume we can install a simple remote starter on top of the factory security system. If I don't use the car, I turn on the alarm. If I want to start the remote starter, I will turn the alarm off, turn on the remote starter. I am a little worry about remote starting a car will trigger the alarm. Any advise ? Thanks.

A friend of mine and I did this on his Manual '97 1.8TQ. What a PITA. This isn't something for the weak at heart. Most of the problem was due to lack of wiring information. My friend had bought the book of wiring diagrams from Audi (before the Bentely CD was available) and they were of limited usefulness to say the least. We still had a hell of a time finding all of the right connections. We're both engineers and had experience with this sort of thing but without the right wiring information it's difficult.
To specifically address your questions. One of the problems we had was getting it to work with the factory alarm. Eventually, he got it to work but that was after 2 whole saturdays spent on it. It's possible just not an easy mod. If you've got any questions feel free to E-mail.
