a4 vs s4 e-codes
So the s4 e-codes are designed specifically for xenons, and the a4 e-codes are not, but they will accept xenons. With that in mind, are there any differences in the beam patterns and housing designs that make the s4 e-codes worth $200 more if you KNOW you're going to be adding a Phillips HID kit.
Also, will the S4 e-code housings work with OEM US Spec A4 halogens, and if so, what modifications are required.

yes, talk to A4by4
there are 2 types of housings designed for halogen lights: US projectors and Euro A4 projectors... there are 2 types designed for xenon bulbs: US DOT Xenons and Euro Xenons (S4 but really for A4 too in europe)
a Xenon housing will have the cut offs built in, and have the best pattern for the cut offs two not blind on coming traffic and light up road signs.
the projector housings work b/c they use an adapter plate so that you can fit the xenon stuff into a halogen housing.
installing a kit into a xenon housing means that
you either have to get a kit without adapters or rip them off.
i have not seen both though, i can't tell you if its worth $200, but.. there is a difference.

You Missed It!
yesterday some of the guys from QCFL met at Christians house, where we installed my s4 e-codes and philips kit. Christian basically did the whole install, and they turned out great. I'm pulling the pictures off my digital camera now and im going to get with christian and do a install FAQ on it. I will post about the install with pictures later...

jean shorts and gray t-shirt, hung around till almost everyone else was gone.. I wanna do this, but I don't want to put out the $1k all at once.. want to do the e-codes first then the HIDs, so I'm trying to get the total lowdown on the e-codes themselves given the 2-step process I want to take. It looks like it will be worth getting the S4 over the A4 e-codes, but if I can't throw my stock halogen bulbs into them, I'll have to wait to do it all at once or just get the A4 e-codes.
