Default IIRC there is a substantial question as to the effect of a bad ABS controller on the system

Something about the system reducing overall brake pressure to avoid lockup if it knows the ABS is down. All I know is that when I my ABS controller was dead, I had a hell of a hard time locking the wheels, even in the rain. When I the system first started going bad, I did some test emergency stops in a parking lot to check out the safety. From 45mph standing on the brakes wouldn't lock up the tires.

Default But how would it do that? The only electrical part of the brake system is the ABS...

if it's dead, you're left with a fully mechanical system.

What you describe is exactly why I hate ABS, it's way too sensitive IMHO. In snow, I've had situations were I simply rolled through a stop sign etc, the ABS completely prevented the car from stopping. With teh ABS 'off' due to a dead controller, no such problems, same car, same tires (Nokian Hakka Q.)

Default Could be a dirty/bad sensor, or sensor wiring, or ABS module itself. Unfortunately, to check either

one you'll need VAG-COM.
Either get a VAG-COM or put pressure on the dealer to have this resolved free of charge due to pre-existing condition.

If you're planning to do some of your maintenance yourself, invest in VAG-COM -- you'll definitely need it in the future.

Welcome to the club ;-)

Default actually, look at Bentley pp 45-5, general info on ABS. There's a high-pressure testing procedure

that indicates that a faulty ABS module can cause pressure drop.

Default Re: Could be a dirty/bad sensor, or sensor wiring, or ABS module

Thank you. I am heading over to an Audi specialist to do a VAG-COM test for me for free. I have always been an Audi fan, only now I got a chance to own one

Default Re: Your Lexus dealer knows nothing about Audis

I had someone scan it and they said they couldn't get to the ABS and get any reading. They suspect that a relay module to the ABS is bad.....

Default Chances are the module is bad, because that's the normal mode of failure

I got mine repaired at www.modulemaster.com

It's possible there could be another sort of problem with it, but chances are these guys can fix it.
