Default Advice on potential upgrade to automatic transmission?

I have a 2000 A4 2.8 with a manual 5 speed. Soon the car will have two drivers, one of whom only wants to drive an automatic transmission. So, I am looking at the following options:

(1) Get a replacement transmission. The two issues here are cost and risk introduced from having a major new component.

(2) Get a replacement car. Perhaps I could swap for an automatic A4 of the same vintage. Or maybe it's an issue of selling the existing one and getting another, similar used one. Cost should be near equivalent but the risk factor is even higher than with the tranmission replacement. The current vehicle is in great shape and has had essentially no problems; you never know what you'll get with another car.

Any advice on what to do?

Default Sell car. Buy another with auto tranny.

That's what I'd do. I wouldn't want to be one of the beta-testers ironing out bugs from a swap. Give me a working car.

Default 1st post... I thought you were the same guy as before rephrasing the q...

Different car though. See the huge post below, most here would say, have the other driver conform to a manual.

But if an automatic is a must, sell the car and get one with an auto tranny already.

Default Does the other driver have all four limbs in working order?

If so then Manual is always an option.

Default park rear right tire against curb, practice pulling away and resting back

The driver can learn to feather the clutch this way......then go to drivers ed. 2 days of fear and then it's like riding a bike.

Manual tranny is not a downgrade from Auto on an Audi imho.
