Airbag light

Airbag light
I have an AUDI A4 2001, and the airbag light has been on for a while now. I was told there was a problem with models of around that period where moisture from the A/C leaks onto the unit therefore causing a short circuit. I dont know how true that is. I have been quoted over £500 by AUDI to replace the unit. I cannot really afford that. Is there anyway i can turn the light off.

Find out what the code refers to first...it likely is not the main airbag module but rather the connection under the drivers/passengers seat. Common problem. I typically connect my VAG and clear the code, if it does not stay off - I wiggle the wires under the drivers side seat, clear codes until the airbag light stays off.
I cannot figure out how to remove the harness - very tight under there and I am not motivated to remove the seat to fix it.
- it is likely just a flimsy connection that won't require a big expense...but pull the code to confirm.
