Default Airbag questions

Sorry to bug everyone here, but I'm looking for some direction here...

About a month ago my Airbag light came on in the cluster. I cleared the code (which was driver seat, resistance too high--after searching I see that this is caused by a loose connection, so I go on with life).

About 2 weeks ago, it comes on again... I clear it, it comes back almost immediately. Now it's the passenger side igniter. Is this coincidence? Could the module be faulty?

Also, is there only one module and is it difficult to replace DIY if you get a new one? I've seen things about needing to program the module, but that appears to only be necessary when people are buying used modules.

Also, how much might one expect to pay for a new module (if there is only one module)?

Thanks in advance.

Zach

Default I can't comment on if it is the airbag control unit or not, but as far as replacing the unit...

it's not that difficult. You remove the climate control faceplate and pop a heater duct off to get access to the nuts holding it down (3). I paid something like $220 from Shokan a couple of years ago, but from what I've read lately, I bet you can find it for much cheaper elsewhere. The reason I replaced it was no communication from the control unit. A pretty clear indication of it failing.

Default Thanks... mine communicates, but it always makes me turn the ignition off then back on

I think that's normal, but I've never seen anyone else do it so who knows.

Glad no recoding is necessary.

Thanks for your reply.

Default I don't know anything about recoding, but I matched part #s exactly. That's necessary

can't just use any B5 control unit.

Default Why replace the unit if you know it's not the unit that's bad?

Sounds to me like you think it's the passenger side seat connection that's bad. Replacing the Airbag control module won't fix that.

Default I thought it was the driver side at first

But now it's saying passenger side igniter. I'm not sure what to think.

Default Start by checking the connectors under the pass side seat.

I had a light on intermittently after I moved the seat. Went away after messing w/ the connectors.

If it's not the connection and the ignier is bad then the control unit does not have to be replaced - only the igniter (i think).
