Aircon issue ...
So the car is a 1998 Avant A4 2.8L Quattro.
The snowflake I talked of was the one on the LCD console between the driver and co-driver seats - I have never seen a snowflake on my console above the steering wheel.
Sorry also if I was not clear enough when say that "I took the car back to the garage and they bled the AC system." - what I meant was they hooked it up to a machine that sucked out all the gas in the AC system.
I have made an appointment with an Audi garage for the 10th of December when they will check out the AC issue.
I appreciate any clues as to what is going on. I sincerely hope it's not the compressor gone bad.

Oh, and I live in Switzerland ... and it's about 1-5C during the day here

Jackeroo sounding Australian - your right - I lived there for 7 years.
My B5 is pre DIS...
So did you work on any cattle or sheep stations while you were here?
They started in the late 90's on Audi's and were quite basic pixellated screens showing basic information such as the trip computer functions and minor car problems such as bulb warning and washer empty, as well as more serious problems such as low oil and the CEL (Check Engine Light).
Modern ones are much higher resolution, full colour, and show radio information, GPS, gear selection and any number of other bits of information...

Gear selection may not be an option on the early screens. Or it may only be applicable on tiptronic (manual sequential mode) transmissions.
The one on my S8 only shows it to be in 'D' in normal driving, then gives the gear selection in manual mode.
Bringing Audi to Life for Audi Fans
I have not tried switching to tiptronic so I don't know if it shows the gears then .. but will try ...

Would the radio stations only show up in the DIS if the car stereo was the original one? - 'Cause right now it's got an aftermarket stereo and I see no radio station info in the DIS.
You would need factory radio to stand a chance though, as it would need to be CANBUS (communications bus) compatable.
