According to what I understood they said that the AC is not meant to run in temps below 5°C (41°F). They said that this could be why it only runs for 5 - 8 min before turning off.
Can anyone confirm that this is true? If so this basically means that the AC is useless through winter which is when you need it for defogging the inside of the windows, especially when you have a few people in the car and it's cold outside.
Is there a trick to defogging the inside of the windows without using the AC?

Does recirculate work when the AC is not on your car? On early cars it didn't work.
If not you can recode the climate control with VAG.com to make recirc work without AC. It helps with defrost.

Using recirc, I can defrost the windows on my 76 Spitfire just fine.
