Alcantara stuff: boot + Rs4 knob (Slight BWW)
#11
it's the same from what i've read and been told. there are different weight of alcantara and
ultrasuede. Some more suited to seats/furniture, and others softer for say the shift boot.
too bad you can't add a RS4 trim plate

Nice....I like the boot....Maybe your roomate could make more and sell em on AW...
I'd be interested in one... Is is slightly shorter than the stock one, so it fits the ShortShifter better...?
Also, whats that switch on the side of your console...fog lights or something?

How to make an alcantara boot:
Im not too sure if my roomate will want to start making a bunch of these for some fellow Aw'ers. However, it is very simple and i will explain how to for those who do not know...
First off, go to a local fabric store and ask for ultrasuede (same as alcantara), or if you have much $$$, go to www.alcantara.com for the fabric. I paid $50/yard for mine which is enough for 4 or 5 boots...

<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/83827/dsc01256.jpg">
Next, take out the stock boot and dissasemble it from the holster, relatively easy... (BTW this process includes runing your stock boot)
Next, just cut the boot along one seem so it will be easy to make a template...
<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/83827/dsc01257.jpg">
After you do this, you will realize 2 of the sides are a bit wider, and 2 are narrower.
Take a piece of paper or anything and trace 1 pattern of each side of the boot on a piece of paper or whatever, and that will be your template.
Basically you are trying to duplicate each side from the stock boot your just took out...
Finally when you have all 4 pieces, pick some thread and have eaither your g/f or mom soe it together with a machine...
After you have all four sides put together, you can then make the holes at the bottom that match the stock boot to fit onto the holster...
<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/83827/dsc01258.jpg">
And then once again we have the final product:
<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/83827/dsc01190.jpg">
BTW,
The switch is for city lights, and the boot is the exact same dimensions as stock, although....
I could have made it a bit shorter to compensate for the short shifter. But thats an easy change that i can always fix in the future.
The proccess is extremely simple...
