Amount over invoice includes...?

When you guys state $ x.xx or x.0 % over invoice,
are you including the extra dealer charges they
like to stick on, eg, advert fees, doc fees,
dealer prep.?

You answered your own question. Dealer prep, ad fees, doc fees, etc. are exactly that - pure profit for the dealer. A quoted "price over invoice" should include base price for the car and any factory options. Vehicle transportation (around $500) is not part of the "over invoice" pricing.

nope...

Audi dealers should not be charging ad fees or holdback. Prep is included in the Invoice price of the car by Audi. Transportation ($525 for '00), taxes, title/registration are not included.

Sucker stickers are a sore subject with me... long and probably boring.

Why do we put up with it? Being a tree hugger from the 60's I always look for a good cause to embrace... I have never understood why consumers continue to bend over and let car dealers stick it to us and things like pin striping, floor mats, dealer prep, money "for the girsl in back who do the paperwork," paint and fabric protection, and my all time favorite ADP. I've had a fair amount of success in negotiating a deal right up to the time where I sign on the bottom line and then going toe to toe with the dealer on their BS issues. On the purchase of my A4 I wouldn't let my dealer make what he needed to make on the car but not to insult me by listing those cozy little extras on my buyer's order. He didn't. I've seen Honda S2000's marked 10 large above sticker, the money Chrysler gets for that retro Neon is obscene and the sad part is, we the consumers line up with our checkbooks open... is this off topic? Oh yeah, save the whales and free Angela! Is this off topic?<p>J.R.S.

Jst to let you know the dest. charge of $525.00
is printed on every Audi invoice. They do give you a credit about $45.00 for prep. The detail usually costs more than that. our internal price is $60.00 and some of the tech inspections on Audis get up there. Again according to dealer internal rate. On a TT our P.D.I. costs $189.00
So when you figure that you got $189 plus $60 plus
$20 to fill it with gas thats $269 minus $45=$224.00 that the dealer has to eat over the invoice. Holdback is another story. You also have to take into account the floorplan charges
that the dealer pays to keep the car in his inventory. They finance the cars on their lots.
and what is the markup in say your average A-4?
Lets use $3000.00 thats ten% of $30,000.00 thats a good averarge price right? If they sell a car for 3% over invoice thats $900.00 of which
$224 of that goes to dealer costs. That is why the extra costs come in Im not defending those
extras that they try to slip in but you should know what the thought process is. sorry this is so long but just my 2 cents.
