Default Another 1.8T tensioner failure, but with a twist. The updated design failed!

I posted about my car failure over the past few days. Here's the latest thread I posted this afternoon:

Today's Post

Well, I verified that with cylinder 1 at TDC, my cam shaft was off about 25 degrees. The belt was in perfect shape. No teeth missing anywhere.

Had it towed to the local Audi/VW specialist (European Legacy on Blalock for Houston people). They depressed the timing belt and immediately said it felt loose. They then proceeded to try and deflect the tensioner by hand. It moved at the piston. No way this thing should move under finger pressure.

This is the new tensioner design. I only have 55K and it's a 99.5. This the first I've heard of the new design failing and of course, it had to be me.

I'm going tomorrow to take pictures of the tensioner, head, valves, & pistons once they pull the head off.

If you're past 60K OR 4 years and haven't done your timing belt. DO IT! And do the tensioner every time you replace your belt.

Default I've heard of a tensioner failure on an '01 A4 with 65K miles, so..

whatever design they've "updated", it certainly didn't help it last any longer.
